24th November 2022 - From Timișoara to Sydney via Singapore

Our journey began from the heart of Romania, Timișoara. In the afternoon we e boarded Lufthansa flight LH1471 bound for Frankfurt. The thrill of anticipation was electric as the city's landscape faded beneath us.

In Frankfurt, the layover was brief, so we boarded after one hour the overnight Singapore Airlines A350 for flight SQ325, heading to Singapore. The night sky was our companion, as the world below transformed through different time zones.

We also flew over our city, Timișoara

25th November 2022 - Singapore

Singapore, often referred to as the 'Lion City', greeted us with its impressive skyline as we touched down at Changi Airport at 5.30 pm. This airport, often lauded as one of the best in the world, offered us a glimpse into Singapore’s vision of blending technology with nature.

But the true marvel awaited us outside. The Gardens by the Bay was our destination. With its Supertree Groves and the awe-inspiring Cloud Forest, this iconic landmark is more than just a garden. It's an embodiment of Singapore’s vision for a city within a garden. As nightfall approached, the Supertrees illuminated, turning the garden into an ethereal spectacle of light and sound.

The night was still young, but time was of the essence. We made our way back to Changi Airport for our next flight, destination: Sydney.

26th November 2022 - From Daylight to Spotlight in Sydney

Australia's most iconic city welcomed us with open arms. Landing at 1 pm, Botany Bay, the Sydney skyline dominated by its famous Opera House and Harbour Bridge greeted us. This harbor city, with its rich colonial history and modern architecture, promised a blend of the old and new.

And what better way to experience Sydney's cultural legacy than an evening at the Sydney Opera House? At 7 pm, we found ourselves enveloped in the majestic sounds of Beethoven's "Fidelio", masterfully conducted by Simone Young. The acoustics of the Opera House made the experience unforgettable, reminding us of the timelessness of art and music.

As the final notes of Fidelio resonated, we headed to our resting place for the night - the Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel Sydney. Situated in the heart of the city, this historic building turned luxury hotel was the perfect ending to our whirlwind three-day journey. With its blend of modern amenities and historical architecture, it symbolized the spirit of our travels - a fusion of the past, present, and future.

27th November 2022 - Day 4: Embracing the Heart and Soul of Sydney

A wave of eagerness swept over us as our day began, for today we would conquer one of Sydney’s most iconic landmarks - the Harbour Bridge. As 10 am approached, we gathered at the BridgeClimb Sydney, ready to ascend this magnificent structure. Built in 1932, the Harbour Bridge isn't just a connection between Sydney's north and south; it's a testament to human engineering and a symbol of the city's spirit. The Ultimate Climb, taking us to the pinnacle of the bridge, offered panoramic vistas of Sydney that left us in awe. The city sprawled out beneath us, its vibrant heartbeat evident in every corner.

Our next destination was the famed Taronga Zoo. Situated against the backdrop of Sydney Harbour, this century-old zoo is more than just an animal sanctuary. It's a commitment to conservation and a bridge between humans and the animal kingdom. From the native kangaroos to the exotic Sumatran tigers, every step inside the zoo was a reminder of nature's incredible diversity.

The day's program then led us to the University of Sydney. Established in 1850, it is Australia's first university and a testament to the nation's commitment to higher education. Its Neo-Gothic architecture and sprawling greens took us back in time, reminiscing about scholars of the past and the innovations birthed within these walls.

As the sun began its descent, we made our way to Darling Harbour. This bustling waterfront area, filled with cafes, shops, and entertainment venues, was alive with the whispers of both history and modernity. Reflecting on its origins as a dockside area in the 19th century, the harbour today is a vibrant precinct that celebrates Sydney's contemporary culture.

But the night was not yet over. In the heart of the city stood the radiant Christmas Tree in Martin Place. As the festive season approached, this towering tree, adorned with thousands of lights, was a symbol of hope, celebration, and the spirit of togetherness. The light from the tree danced on the historic buildings of Martin Place, invoking the magic of the season.

After a day of exploration and discovery, we returned to the hotel.

28th November 2022 - Day 5: Sandy Strolls and Melbourne Marvels

Morning greeted us with a promise of azure skies and the tantalizing scent of saltwater. Sydney, with its iconic coastline, was about to present another gem: the coastal stretch between Bondi and Bronte. With the sun overhead, we set out to experience the famed Bondi to Bronte Coastal Walk. This winding path, flanked by the vast expanse of the Pacific on one side and dramatic cliffs on the other, was a testament to Australia's raw beauty.

First on our path was Bondi Beach. This iconic spot, with its golden sands and rolling waves, is not just a surfer's paradise but a reflection of Australia's deep-rooted beach culture. From surfers conquering waves to families soaking in the sun, Bondi was alive with activity and the sound of the ocean's rhythmic dance.

A short stroll away was Tamarama Beach. Often referred to as 'Glamarama', this beach was smaller in size but grand in its allure. Historically known for its amusement park in the early 20th century, today, it's renowned for its azure waters and the tranquil atmosphere it offers.

Further along, the path led us to Bronte Beach. This scenic spot, with its shaded park area and inviting tidal pools, was a refreshing sight. The history of Bronte is as riveting as its views, with tales of shipwrecks and valiant lifesavers who've stood guard over its waters for over a century.

Regrettably, Sydney was bidding us farewell. With our coastal adventure completed, it was time to transfer to the airport. As our Qantas flight QF493 soared above the Australian terrain, we left behind the sparkling beaches of Sydney and set our sights on Melbourne, often dubbed as Australia's cultural capital.

Touching down in Melbourne, the city's vibrant energy was immediately noticeable. From its graffiti-laden laneways to its historic arcades, Melbourne promised an abundance of experiences. Our abode for the night was the Grand Hyatt Melbourne. Situated in the heart of the city, this luxurious establishment was both a nod to Melbourne's rich history and its modern opulence.

As night draped over Melbourne, the city lights shimmered, inviting us to explore its depths. But with the comfort of the Grand Hyatt's plush bedding calling, we chose to rest, gearing up for the adventures the next day would undoubtedly bring.

29th November 2022 - Day 6: Melbourne's Mosaic - From Sports Arenas to Historic Parks

The day began on a high note with an incredible breakfast at the Grand Hyatt Melbourne. From fresh fruits to traditional Aussie delights, the spread was a testament to Melbourne's culinary diversity.

With our appetites satiated, we ventured out to Melbourne Park. This expansive sports venue is renowned worldwide, particularly for its association with the prestigious Australian Open tennis tournament. The centerpiece, Rod Laver Arena, stood majestic, bearing the name of one of tennis's greatest champions. Walking through, one could almost hear the echoes of roaring crowds and legendary matches that have graced its courts.

From the contemporary allure of Melbourne Park, we transitioned to one of the city's most iconic landmarks - Flinders Street Railway Station. This architectural marvel, with its distinctive dome, arched entrance, and its vibrant yellow façade, has been a focal point of Melbourne since the early 1900s. Historically, its famous steps have been a popular meeting place, giving birth to the phrase "I'll meet you under the clocks."

Adjacent to the station, Fed Square (or Federation Square) welcomed us. This modern piazza, with its distinct geometric designs, is not just an architectural marvel but a cultural hub. From art exhibitions to public events, it's a pulsating heart of Melbourne's vibrant urban life.

Our journey then led us along the tranquil banks of the Yarra River. This river, significant to the indigenous Wurundjeri people, has been a life source and central figure in Melbourne's growth. Its calm waters mirrored the city's skyline, creating a beautiful reflection of old and new.

A highlight awaited as we ascended the Melbourne Skydeck. Offering panoramic views, the city lay spread out beneath us, a sprawling urban jungle punctuated by landmarks, parks, and the winding Yarra River.

Speaking of parks, our next stop was Albert Park. This lush green space is not just a recreational area but also home to the famous Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit. The roar of Formula 1 cars seemed almost tangible as we strolled through, reminiscing about the races that set hearts racing globally.

As daylight began to wane, we found solace in the serene ambience of Fitzroy Gardens. Established in the 19th century, these gardens are a tribute to Victorian era landscaping. With its ornate fountains, historic buildings, and the famous Captain Cook's Cottage, every corner whispered tales from the past.

Returning to the luxurious embrace of the Grand Hyatt Melbourne, we reflected on the day's explorations. Melbourne, with its rich history, modern marvels, and natural beauty, had woven a captivating narrative, one that promised even more tales in the days to come.

30th November 2022 - Day 7: Navigating Nature's Masterpieces: Melbourne's Great Ocean Tour

Starting the day on an empty stomach may not have been ideal, but the anticipation of the Great Ocean Tour more than compensated for the missing breakfast at the hotel. As the hands of the clock neared 6:45 am, our bus arrived, ready to whisk us away on a day-long adventure.

Our first stop was Point Addis. This coastal jewel, with its expansive marine park, offers an incredible vantage point. The vastness of the ocean, paired with the dramatic cliffscapes, set the tone for the day.

Soon after, we found ourselves at Split Point Lookout. A pivotal location along the Shipwreck Coast, this vantage point provides sweeping views of the tumultuous waters that have claimed many ships in history.

St. George River Lookout was next on our itinerary. This site offers a unique perspective, contrasting the ferocious waves against the tranquil flow of the St. George River, reminding us of nature's dual nature - both fierce and calming.

Shifting terrains, the tour led us to Maits Rest Rainforest Walk. This temperate rainforest, with its ancient trees and fern-filled gullies, feels like a step back in time. The symphony of bird calls and the rustling of leaves underfoot added to the magical atmosphere.

But the showstopper awaited us – the 12 Apostles. These limestone stacks, rising majestically from the Southern Ocean, are a testament to the relentless force of nature. Over time, the ocean's waves carved out these giants, and standing before them, one truly feels the weight of eons gone by.

Not far from the Apostles, Loch Ard Gorge presented another spectacle. Named after the ship Loch Ard, which tragically wrecked here in the late 1800s, the gorge tells a tale of survival and loss.

Further along, The Razorback rock formation showcased nature's artistic flair. Carved by the elements, its jagged edges contrasted sharply with the cerulean waters below.

Loch Ard Gorge Beach

Gibson Beach

A quick descent took us to Loch Ard Gorge Beach, followed by Gibson Beach. Both places, with their golden sands caressed by turquoise waves, provided a perfect setting for reflection.

As the sun began its descent, we made our way back to Melbourne, arriving by 7 pm, with memories of nature's wonders still fresh in our minds.

The evening was yet young, and Melbourne had more stories to share. A short walk led us to the Evan Walker Bridge, which, with its cascading lights, became a shimmering pathway over the Yarra River. The river itself, illuminated by city lights, transformed into a sparkling tapestry under the night sky.

Exhausted yet fulfilled, we returned to the hotel, eager to dream of the landscapes we had traversed and the marvels that the morrow would bring.

1st December 2022 - Day 8: From Urban Marvels to Island Wonders: Melbourne and Phillip Island

Despite being miles away from our homeland, waking up in Melbourne on Romania's National Day added a unique sentiment to our journey. While we celebrated this special day in Australia, it was a lovely reminder of the world's vastness and the ties that bind us to our roots, no matter where we roam.

Our day commenced at Fitzroy Gardens. A short walk from the gardens led us to the magnificent State Library Victoria. Established in the mid-19th century, this library, with its ornate architecture and majestic reading room, is a repository of knowledge and history. For a moment, surrounded by ancient tomes and scripts, we felt connected to scholars from centuries gone by.

The afternoon heralded another adventure as our bus arrived at 1:45 pm for the much-anticipated Phillip Island tour. Our first stop was the Koala Conservation Reserve. Here, amidst eucalyptus trees, we caught sight of Australia's iconic marsupials. Observing koalas in their natural habitat, lazily munching on leaves or dozing in the treetops, was indeed a memorable experience.

Our journey continued to Pyramid Rock Lookout. This distinctive rock formation, shaped over time by the relentless waves, stood as a sentinel against the vast ocean backdrop, symbolizing nature's eternal dance of creation and erosion.

Soon, we found ourselves at The Nobbies View Point. Overlooking Seal Rocks, this vantage point offered panoramic views of the rugged coastline and the restless waters that shape it.

As evening approached, we were in for a magical spectacle at the Penguin Parade. As the sun set, Little Penguins, the world's smallest penguin species, waddled ashore in groups. Their synchronized march from the sea to their sand dune burrows was a sight to behold, a testament to nature's wondrous cycles.

With stars adorning the night sky, we made our way back to Melbourne, reaching our accommodation close to midnight. As we drifted into slumber, images of koalas, rocky shores, and parading penguins danced in our dreams, sealing yet another unforgettable day in our Australian chronicles.

2nd December 2022 - Day 9: From the Aussie Shores to the Lion City's Glitz

With a heavy heart, we bid adieu to Melbourne. Its intricate tapestry of history, nature, and urban life had left an indelible mark on our souls. As our Jetstar flight JQ7 soared high, the landscape beneath gradually morphed from the vast Australian expanse to the glistening waters of Southeast Asia.

Touching down in Singapore at 8.30 pm, the shift in ambiance was instantaneous. From the vast, sprawling spaces of Australia to the neon-lit, vertical cityscape of Singapore, the change was both striking and invigorating.

Changi Airport, often hailed as one of the best in the world, welcomed us back with its signature blend of efficiency and aesthetics. From verdant indoor gardens to futuristic installations, the airport itself felt like a microcosm of the city-state.

Our journey from the airport was swift, courtesy of a convenient taxi service. As we made our way through the city, Singapore's skyline, punctuated with architectural wonders and lit by a million lights, unfolded before us.

Our lodgings for the night were at the iconic Marina Bay Sands. Even before reaching it, the hotel's distinctive three towers, connected by the famous SkyPark, were visible from a distance, standing as sentinels against the city's skyline. Checking into Marina Bay Sands is not just about luxury; it's an experience in itself. Historically, the Marina Bay area transformed from being a quiet body of water at the entrance of the Singapore River to one of the world's most spectacular urban landscapes. And right at its heart, the Marina Bay Sands stands as a testament to Singapore's vision and ambition.

Exhausted from the day's journey, we retired to our rooms, excited about exploring this modern marvel and the city beyond in the coming days. The fusion of cultures, the promise of culinary delights, and the mix of tradition with futuristic innovation in Singapore awaited us, and we were eager to plunge into the next chapter of our adventure.

3rd December 2022 - Day 10: Diving Deep into the Lion City's Heartbeat

Awakening in the heart of Singapore, the day promised exploration and indulgence. Our first stop was Orchard Road, a boulevard synonymous with retail luxury. With a history stretching back to the 1830s, this once fruit orchard and nutmeg plantation transformed over the decades into a shopping paradise. Packed with malls, boutiques, and cafes, each establishment told stories of global luxury brands meeting local tastes. We lost track of time wandering from one store to the next, each offering its own allure.

By midday, the call of Marina Bay Sands' famed infinity pool was irresistible. Suspended high above the city, this architectural marvel offers not just a refreshing dip but also unparalleled views of Singapore's skyline. Floating there, it felt like being on the edge of the world, with the city's panorama unfolding beneath.

Refreshed and reinvigorated, our next adventure was the Marina Bay Waterfront Promenade. This 3.5 km walkway, flanked by water and modern architectural wonders, is a testament to Singapore's vision of harmonizing urban development with leisure spaces. The gentle ripples of water alongside provided a calming counterpoint to the city's hustle.

No trip to Singapore is complete without paying homage to the iconic Merlion. This mythical creature with the head of a lion and the body of a fish is deeply rooted in Singapore's history. The lion head represents Singapore's original name, Singapura, which means "lion city" in Malay. At the same time, the fish body acknowledges the city-state's humble beginnings as a fishing village. As we stood there, witnessing the Merlion's waters cascade against the backdrop of the city, we felt a connection to the layers of history and progress Singapore embodies.

As night descended, we returned to our lodgings at Marina Bay Sands. Reflecting on the day, Singapore's blend of modernity with hints of its storied past had left an indelible impression. Another day, another city, and yet more memories crafted on this unforgettable trip.

Regrettably, staying at Marina Bay Sands might only be worthwhile for those keen to explore the SkyPark, as only hotel guests have access to the infinity pool. Beyond this, the room quality isn't particularly standout, and the breakfast, which can be quite pricey if not included, doesn't offer top-tier food quality.

4th December 2022 - Day 11: A Symphony of Sights, Tastes, and History in Singapore

Morning found us once more on the edge of the world, or so it felt, as we plunged into Marina Bay Sands' illustrious infinity pool. The skyline stretched below, a silent witness to our elevated escapades.

Midday was a culinary affair at The Fullerton Hotel. Steeped in history, this neoclassical landmark has seen Singapore evolve from a colonial outpost to a global hub. Amidst its grandeur, we treated ourselves to a festive traditional afternoon tea. Each bite seemed to resonate with flavors, reminiscent of Singapore's colonial past and its multicultural present.

After our delightful repast, the Singapore River beckoned. This waterway is the lifeblood of Singapore's history. Once a bustling hub of trade and commerce, the riverbanks now throng with eateries, boutiques, and a silent narrative of Singapore's transformation.

Our next stop was the National Gallery Singapore. A treasure trove of Southeast Asian art, the gallery's majestic buildings once housed the Supreme Court and City Hall.

With daylight still on our side, we revisited the Merlion. Its iconic stature against the clear blue sky was a sight to behold. As evening approached, we found ourselves at the Apple Store in Marina Bay Sands - an architectural spectacle floating on water.

Our last hours in Singapore were reserved for the Gardens by the Bay. A vision of green amidst urbanity, this botanical wonderland celebrates the marriage of nature and technology.

Unfortunately, all good things come to an end. And so, with heavy hearts, we transferred to the airport, bidding adieu to Singapore and boarding our flight to Frankfurt.

5th December 2022 - Homeward Bound

Our journey on Singapore Airlines's A380 in service from Singapore to Frankfurt felt like a transition from one world to another. On reaching Frankfurt, the swift connection to Flight LH1470 soon had us on our way to Timișoara, back home.
